Cowan Surpasses Record, Raises $180,000 for Children’s Mental Health Ontario

Today, Cowan Insurance Group and The Cowan Foundation announced that a record $180,000 was raised at the Annual Cowan Charity Classic golf tournament held in September at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.

The past few years have been filled with challenges that have impacted everyone. Some of the most profoundly affected in our communities have been those already needing support. Making children’s mental health a priority again this year, Cowan Insurance Group selected Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO) as this year’s Charity of Choice. “Giving back to our community is a big part of who we are, and after a challenging few years, especially for the younger generation, it made sense to continue to support children’s mental health,” says Janet Peddigrew, President of Cowan Insurance Group. “That’s why the choice to partner with CMHO was easy.”

Cowan Insurance Group annually hosts the Cowan Charity Classic golf tournament in Southwestern Ontario in support of Canadian non-profit organizations. The Cowan Foundation generously matches funds raised at the tournament each year.

“It is The Cowan Foundation’s pleasure to support Children’s Mental Health Ontario again as the 2022 Cowan Charity Classic beneficiary. We congratulate Cowan and thank all sponsors and participants who helped set a record for funds raised at this year’s tournament,” said Mary D’Alton, Executive Director, The Cowan Foundation. “We are pleased to match the funds raised, knowing the many ways CMHO and their member agencies are working tirelessly to meet the growing need for mental health services for children, youth and families in Ontario.”

The funds raised from this year’s tournament will go toward the Children’s Mental Health Ontario peer support initiative, which helps caregivers and parents of children with mental illness find connection and support.

“Parents and caregivers play an invaluable role in their children’s care, yet are often left without assistance for their growing needs,” said Tatum Wilson, CEO of Children’s Mental Health Ontario. “The Cowan Peer Support Program at CMHO will give parents and caregivers much-needed support to manage the challenges they are experiencing as they manage their children’s care. We are so grateful to Cowan Insurance Group and The Cowan Foundation for their generous donation and commitment to child and youth mental health—and the families that support them.”
